Joey Tanner Wants More Wins:
By Doc Lehman

Even though his plans for the season have been altered that hasn't dampened Joey Tanner's enthusiasm for the 2006 racing season and the young, popular and talented 15-year-old dirt Late Model driver is locked and loaded and ready for the season to commence. Plans to migrate back east have been shelved for now but Tanner has a full season ahead on the west coast and tentative plans have him heading east for the Knoxville Late Model Nationals and the Dirt Track World Championship. Regardless, Tanner has proven he is a winner and that is the immediate task at hand for the Portland, OR ace.

The 15-years-old has already proven his worth though by not only winning the Pacific Coast Xtreme Dirt Car Series (PCXDCS) Rookie of the Year title but he also scored his career first feature win, a PCXDCS race at Skagit Speedway in Alger, WA last season. As far as Tanner is concerned that's only the beginning.

"Well as of now I am going to run at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Oregon for points and run what is called the Bud I-5 Series which runs all over Oregon and Washington," responded Tanner when asked about his plans. "We're going for the championship. Things didn't go as planned for the whole back east thing so we're just going to run local, and hit the Knoxville (Late Model) Nationals and possibly the Dirt Track World Championship, but it all depends."

Tanner has all his equipment ready and in order and so far the only disappointment was the season opener at Williamette Speedway being rained out this past Saturday. "I'm going to start the season out in my '04 Rayburn combo car, until my '05 Rayburn gets a new clip, and some four bar mounts. In those cars I'm going to run my new 430 Clements motor."

"My primary sponsor on my car will be Federated Auto Parts and XS Energy Drink! Other sponsors will be Eastside Paving, Jody's, Xtreme Motorsports, joeytanner.com, and Clements Racing Engines."

Tanner wastes no time in replying to the obvious question about his season goals. "Definitely a championship! I learned a lot at this year's Winternationals and now that I'm staying here on the west coast, and now that I have one year down in dirt Late Model racing it's time for a championship and that's what we are going for and that a big goal for me!"

"Another one will be when at the Knoxville race, possibly making the show, I know I'm capable of it. I'm still on the road of trying to get somewhere with my racing and hopefully if I do accomplish these goals it might help me."

Mentioning Knoxville and the Dirt Track World Championship elicits mucho enthusiasm from Tanner. "Like I said, making the show would be awesome," stated Tanner. "I know it's hard and with the competition at its finest, and the equipment those guys have, but I feel if you are a good driver and you got the best stuff you can get there is no excuse. So I'm excited and I know a little more what to expect this time and hopefully things will work out OK and I am very excited to go to those races to show people what I got."

What he has is an apparent knack for making his way to the front. We haven't heard the last of Joey Tanner.

Count on it!
